i helped a drunk man

I was walking home, then saw a man struggling to stand on his knees and repeatedly falling. There were people around, but they ignored him. I didn't know what to do, so i did what i knew:

I called my mom.

She advised to help him to get up so that his knees don't freeze off in the snow and to call an ambulance. If not her advice, i wouldn't have had the courage to help. Thanks mom.

My approach to the man signified to people around that it was now acceptable to help him. So they did. As we pulled him to a safer place, he resisted, but that's okay. A woman called an ambulance, and we three spent a good few minutes waiting for it.

The man was barely standing, and i held him when he was about to fall. He talked gibberish, some of it was about national politics, but still incoherent. His attention was towards the woman. As he called her beautiful, i stood between them two to prevent physical contact.

When the ambulance arrived, they told me that they bring drunk people to the hospital only when they fight, that i was supposed to call the cops to lock him up for being outside and drunk until he becomes lucid again. After this insight, i was set free.
